I am 28 weeks pregnant and I expect to deliver on September 9, 2012, which is the same day as our 9th anniversary as a couple.
Is this your first child?
Yes
Was the pregnancy a surprise?
No, we always intended on starting our family in 2012, just before my partner turned 30 and I would be 27 years old.
Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl?
Yes, it’s a girl. We’re both thrilled; in fact this was our feeling from the very beginning.
Have you thought about names yet?
We’re going to call her Zoé. Choosing her name was really easy since we both fell in love with that name.
Do you have any special cravings or snack attacks?
I love ice cream and fruit. Occasionally, I like to blend together kiwi fruit and vanilla ice cream in the blender, the result is a little sweet and a little tart. You should try it, it’s delicious!
Have you noticed any differences in your sensory perceptions?
Sometimes I have the impression that my sense of smell is a hundred times more receptive! I’ve developed a really sensitive sense of smell and that’s not always a good thing.
Do you sing or read to your baby?
Not really, but every night starting around my 20th week of pregnancy I’ve been playing with this glow-in-the-dark sea horse plush toy that plays music and as soon as the music starts my baby immediately starts to kick. It’s become our very own special moment.
What is the best advice you ever received while pregnant?
That I should rest whenever possible.
What advice would you give to other pregnant women?
Take prenatal classes, I strongly believe in getting as much information as possible and knowing as much as I can about pregnancy, delivery and breastfeeding.
What do you do to stay in shape?
I walk 1 kilometre to work each morning, and during the first three months of my pregnancy I continued to work out at the gym. I do some yoga at home and I recently registered for prenatal aqua fitness classes, which I can’t wait to start.
Is there a book or other type of support that you found particularly useful?
Yes, it was “The Day-by-Day Pregnancy Book.” This book allowed my partner and I to become more familiar with what was going to happen to my body over the next few months. There is a page representing each day of the pregnancy that explains the baby’s development and includes all kinds of really interesting information for the mom and dad-to-be. I also enjoy the magazine “Maman & Moi,” it’s the most comprehensive and informative magazine I’ve read so far and it covers a lot of interesting topics. I especially enjoyed the articles about baby’s first days at home and its monthly development from birth to 2.
Is the baby’s room ready?
We are currently preparing Zoé’s room. The room’s theme “Ocean Wonders” was inspired by snorkelling, which is our favourite activity. The walls are painted turquoise, the colour of the ocean, and all the furniture is white. My sister, who will also be our daughter’s godmother, painted pictures of sea horses, tropical fish, sea tortoises, dolphins and all kinds of sea life to decorate the walls.
What’s your secret to keeping your personal style during your pregnancy?
I would say that my style evolves according to the season and what’s available in store. I noticed that I’m wearing a lot more colour than before. Prior to my pregnancy I wore a lot of black and grey, but now I don’t think twice about wearing red, blue, turquoise, yellow, fuchsia or purple.
What are your favourite Thyme clothing items or accessories)
I like to use Soothing Therapy’s stretch mark cream and breast cream morning and night. They help moisturize my skin without leaving a sticky residue and I just love that. Furthermore, they smell delicious with a refreshing citrus scent, which is great since I have sensitive nose.
710161 Jean skirt, it’s so comfortable and practical. Now that summer is here I’d like to wear it every day! I really need to get a few more!
#709663 Poplin maternity top, I just love the colour and the stretch fabric. Another plus is that I can wear it after the pregnancy.
#708483 Convertible maternity tankini, it’s perfect for the beach or for lounging around the pool with friends.
Cotton and spandex maternity panties (4-pack), they’re available in a variety of pretty colours and they’re super comfortable.
